Every small business needs a website. It adds to your credibility and enables you to advertise your services much more widely than would otherwise be possible.
If you're working as a freelance proofreader or editor, we can design, build and arrange hosting for a website that will present the right image to your clients.
We can help in one of two ways.
At just £80 to set up (free for former students on Proofreading Today and SfEP members) and £60 a year for hosting*, this is the cheaper option.
You can pick from one of our templates (below) and build your website using our pre-installed content management system (CMS).
We've designed the CMS so that it requires no special knowledge of web design or coding. Just follow the on-screen instructions to add, edit or remove pages. If you run into problems, there are on-screen hints and tips to help you, but if you need further assistance, you can always contact us by email for support.
The template-based service allows you to:
We will also help you set up up to five email addresses for your domain name.

Our guide price for this service is £500 for design and build (former Proofreading Today students and SfEP members get a 20% discount), and £60 a year for hosting*, although this will depend on your precise requirements.
How does it work?
We will ask you about your requirements to make sure that the end product meets your needs and expectations. This means learning all we can about the following:
Once we've come up with a brief that we can agree on, we will work on some preliminary designs. Depending on how specific the brief is, we will normally provide two or three options.
You may then decide to ask us to go ahead using one of the preliminary designs, or you may wish us to make changes. You may even wish to take aspects from each design. Whatever you decide, we will advise you on what will work best in terms of presentation and usability.
When we have a basic design that you're happy with, we'll get on with writing the code. Precisely how long this takes depends on the complexity of the website, but you should expect it to take approximately four to five weeks. During this time, we'll also help you get your chosen domain name registered.
Our approach to design is to produce sites that are simple and clear, making it as easy as possible for users to find what they need. We write the code from scratch, which means that we can optimise it for search engines and make sure the site loads as quickly as possible. It also means that our code complies with W3C standards, which has knock-on benefits in terms of accessibility and search engine visibility.
