Graham Smith

Course director and principal trainer

Graham Smith Graham Smith is a publisher, editor and trainer with more than 20 years' experience of book, Internet, CD-ROM and corporate publishing. After training as an engineer he moved into publishing, initially as an editor for a communications agency producing corporate literature for aerospace and engineering companies. He then moved over to consumer publishing, editing illustrated non-fiction books for international markets.

He has managed the publishing programme for Salamander Books, been Managing Editor on a series of historical educational CD-ROMs for First Information Group and was Content Manager on BT's Campus series of educational websites for schools and parents.

A qualified trainer, Graham has spent five years managing the training business for a major publishing training organisation. He is also an accredited trainer to the European Commission and European Parliament.

Graham also remains a working editor and proofreader and regularly takes on freelance assignments for UK and overseas publishers.

Bev Legge

Trainer

Bev is a professional writer and trainer who has worked in the UK as well as in many other European countries and the USA.

His clients include major companies, charities, professional bodies and government departments.

Besides being involved in corporate copywriting and speechwriting, he is also a freelance journalist, and has contributed articles to the Daily Mirror and the Guardian, as well as to numerous trade and consumer magazines.

Charlie Wilson

Trainer

Charlie WilsonCharlie is a professional proofreader, editor and writer with a background in corporate communications and publishing. Through her business, Perfectly Write, she works in a freelance capacity with companies, organisations, authors and publishers. Her client list includes publishers John Wiley & Sons, Folens and Taylor & Francis; charities Turning Point and FARM-Africa; Brighton University; and the government's Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.

Charlie undertakes a wide variety of editorial work – from editing and proofreading reports, marketing material and books through to mentoring authors and developing their books. She is passionate about the written word, and this comes through in her work for Editorial Training. Charlie is an enthusiastic tutor who aims to help writers develop their skills and confidence in a supportive environment.

Emma Murray

Trainer

Emma MurrayEmma is a professional writer, editor and ghostwriter with a background in financial marketing. As a fully qualified copyeditor and proofreader (www.emmamurray.net), Emma regularly works with publishers such as Random House, Crimson, Karnac, and Arcturus. Emma also acts a consultant to authors, advising them on how to develop, structure, and perfect their manuscripts.

Other clients include media companies, financial houses, management training organisations and government-sponsored teaching schemes.

Emma is also a regular columnist for InPrint magazine, and regularly gives talks to students about pursuing freelancing as a career.

Sally Hughes

Trainer

Sally is an experienced software trainer with over 15 years' experience of providing training to the publishing industry. Her clients include Cambridge and Oxford University Presses, Elsevier, Blackwell, Tate and National Gallery publishing, and many government departments and not-for-profit organisations. She also holds a teaching post at the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies at Oxford Brookes University. As a qualified lecturer in higher education, she provides well organised and industry focussed training in Word for editing, InDesign, digital workflow and creating and using PDF files efficiently for both production and editorial staff. While her training focuses on the software, her sessions use examples from industry projects and place the uses of these digital tools in the context of the publishing workflow.
